Queens Gardens, Dunedin Central, Dunedin City
Not to be left out after the erection of statues in Auckland, Wellington and Christcurch Dunedin unveiled its image of Queen Victoria in 1905 where she has been given a garden to sit in. Unlike the counterparts in the northern cities she is grander, being carved in marble. The same sculptor (Herbert Hampton) was responsible for an even grander version sitting outside the Town Hall in Lancaster in England. It is adorned with friezes paying homage to the greats of the Victorian era.
