12 Pitarua Street, Thorndon-Kelburn, Wellington City
In 2003 Peter Beaven won an Enduring Architecture Award from the New Zealand Institute of Architects. Referring to this 1975 Habitat Housing project the citation says: 'Thorndon Mews extended the concept of low rise high density housing with an intricate arrangement of small dwellings, up a steep site, skilfully interwoven with alleyways, stairs and courtyards, with each unit maintaining a discrete relationship to the whole.' This was Wellington's first mews style medium density development. LLTM p187
