39 Pipitea Street, Thorndon-Kelburn, Wellington City

Ministerial House - Keith Holyoake

Prime Minster Keith Holyoake could easily walk to work when he lived here from 1960 to 1972. If he was still alive today he would pass his statue outside the New Zealand Rugby Union Headquarters on the corner of the street.
A design by the architect Stanley Walter Fearn (1887-1976), who designed the William Booth Memorial College building in Aro Street, 41 Pipitea Street was built in 1927 and has justifiably been heritage listed.

Keith Holyoake served three terms. Opinions differ on his success as a Prime Minister. Some insights are give in this review by Michael Bassett of Barry Gustafson's biography.
