Wellington Cable Car

The journey takes less than 10 minutes but kids young and old enjoy the experience. Buy your ticket at the Lambton Quay base station. At the top you can admire the view, visit the Cable Car Museum or walk through the Botanic Gardens.

Children love this ride up to a fantastic view of Wellington.They enjoy the way it works on a pulley system and electric motor. The cable car travels under a section of the motorway and the foundations of the road can be seen. The history of the cable car can be found in the museum at the top.

The Cable car leaves every 10 minutes.

Originally the Cable Car was built to open up what was a new hillside suburb in Kelburn. James Edward Fulton was the engineer. Apart from being a tourist attraction it continues to provide city access for people from the suburb.
