136 The Terrace, Te Aro-Wellington Central, Wellington City

Challenger House

Edmund Anscombe made a good job of designing what was originally an apartment block (1938). The building is dwarfed by its younger neighbours but stands out as a fine example of the moderne style. It has been called Lintas House and Franconia but it was titled Invincible House when its owner and his son were shot in a notorious murder case for which there were several trials before a conviction was made.
