60 Homewood Crescent, Karori, Wellington City
When Bill Alington returned from overseas after seeing works by Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd-Wright and Mies van der Rohe he built this modernist house for his family. (1962-1964).
Its intriguing rectangular plan makes the fireplace the centre of the house showing the influence of Lloyd-Wright and has four bedrooms on the corners. Its modernism is confirmed by the use of post-and--beam construction and floor to ceiling windows. Heritage New Zealand has given it a Category 1 listing and the NZIA have given it an Enduring Architecture Award.
