Aro Street Community Centre and Park

Providing a focal point and public space for a lively community, the Centre is managed by the Aro Valley Community Council. There are school holiday programmes. In December Xmas trees are sold here as a community fund-raiser.

A claim to fame - or notoriety - is the community centre's role at national election time when it hosts candidates from all political parties and allots each of them a restricted time to speak. 'Over-stayers' in their time slot are liberally sprayed with water pistols. The Aro Valley is a stronghold of the Green party.
