22 Stout Street, Whataupoko, Gisborne
Built in 1872, Wyllie Cottage is a six-roomed cottage furnished in the 19th century style. It was the first house built on the northern side of the Taruheru River and is now the oldest house still standing in Gisborne. It is part of the Gisborne Museum complex.
The original matriarch of the Wyllie Clan in Gisborne, Kate Wyllie, also variously known as Halbert, Kenana and Gannon, held mana and position in both Maori and Pakeha worlds and her influence on the District in it's formative years runs deep.
