110 Moray Place, Dunedin Central, Dunedin Central, Dunedin City
Dunedin's first Free Public Library opened on 2 December 1908, funded by a £10,000 grant from American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. It expanded it's services gradually from a reference only service, into Children's library, and receiving a huge boost when 4200 volumes were donated by a Mr McNab in 1913. This forward thinking library service even had a mobile library up and running in the 1950's and started renting out records. In 1981 it moved out of this Moray Place location, which is now tenanted as office space.
