336 Cumberland Street, Dunedin Central, Janefield-Halfway Bush, Dunedin City
Roughly here and by 2025, Dunedin will have a new hospital.
Like many things in the Dunedin, parts of the old hospital are very old, and there have been many criticisms about its operations.
The DHB, and the Ministry of Health and a local partnership group have combined to identify this commercial block not far from the city as the right place for the new facility. The land here is definitely for sale, the Cadbury Chocolate factory already having been closed and offered to government.
In 2018, the project was described by Southern Partnership Group convener and former cabinet minster Pete Hodgson as 'drowning in paper', amassed since 2015, but that an architectural firm would soon be engaged.
