33 London Street, Lyttelton, Christchurch City
Christchurch City Council has gifted the Lyttelton Museum this main street site next to the library for their new premises after their former home was decimated in the earthquakes. The collection was saved thanks to volunteer firefighters and museum staff from the Airforce Museum of New Zealand.
Architects Warren and Mahoney are working on the designs, and the timeline estimates the new facility could be open by the end of 2019.
The optimistic Chairman of the Museums Development Committee, Mr Rough, announced in May 2018 that "We currently have $600,000. Owning the land will make it easier for us to start raising money. We estimate that we will need to raise about another $5M."
