The Ferrymead Heritage park consists of an Edwardian township and an Exhibition Area. There are currently 18 member societies within the park that make up The Ferrymead Trust, Within the exhibition area are the largest fire museum in Australasia, an aeronautical museum, the Hall of Wheels and a model railway display. At Bridle Path Rd, the park also has a Tram Barn, Sound Museum and active radio station Radio Ferrymead.
Ferrymead was also the site of New Zealand's first public railway commissioned in 1863. Goods from Lyttelton would be brought around on small boats and loaded onto the train, which also carried passengers.
The park is also home to a plethora of Heritage Societies which meet here, including the Canterbury Centre for Historic Photography and Film
