45 Swindon Street, Omakau-Ophir, Central Otago
Pitches has been here since Ophir was named Blacks. That's back to the 1870s, the Black brothers being the runholders on this area that later became a goldmining town. The Blacks ran the hotel, which is still named Blacks but has moved down the road and been rebuilt.
It sounds like a lot of change but actually, upon visiting Ophir you would find that very little has changed. Especially Pitches, which was the General Store and is now a small accommodation house on the Otago Rail Trail. So small that it can only take a few visitors at a time, and so popular that it pays to book. The other historic place to stay here is St Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
There are lots of historic things to see on foot including the Historic Daniel O'Connell Bridge, and various old buildings including the Courthouse.
