76 Ophir Bridge Road, Omakau-Ophir, Central Otago
Daniel OConnell Bridge at Ophir is sometimes known as Ophir Historic Bridge or Ophir Old Bridge. It is not now the main traffic bridge over the Manuherikia, it is a bit to the south of the town, round a bend and very distinctive.
Irish Catholic Miners named the bridge for a spiritual and political leader from Ireland. It was opened in 1880 and has 10 suspension cables. It is kept in good order and is a popular tourist landmark. There are other Gold Rush era landmarks in Ophir, like the Courthouse and the Post and Telegraph Office.
