8 Courthouse Lane, Auckland, Auckland
If you are staying in central Auckland and want to find somewhere to eat and drink within walking distance you may wish to choose from the collection of restaurants and bars from Vulcan Lane to Chancery Street. (Vulcan Lane was closed to traffic in 1967). They include: Tasca - a Tapas Bar & Restaurant in Upper Vulcan Lane; Three adjacent bars featuring Belgian, Irish and New Zealand beers in Vulcan Lane; Khao a Thai Restaurant on the corner of Chancery and O'Connell st. In addition in nearby Chancery there are a further six restaurants including Mecca Café, Italian restaurant Invito and Umbria. The Chancery development has been praised for its contribution to urban design. The architectural design team was IGNITE. There are a number of heritage buildings in the area which has over the decades been an Auckland social centre. It is designated an historic area. The attractiveness of the area as a people place was enhanced in 2014 when O'Connell street became a 'shared space' by removing footpaths, kerbs and parking spaces and restricting vehicle access to deliveries.
