Metropolis Tower

Although it has been criticised for its failure to connect with its surroundings at street level the 40-storey Metropolis Tower contributes an element of New York 1920s grandeur to the skyline. The architect was Otto Taskovich. The apartment complex is entered through the 1913 Baroque former court building. One apartment called "Mon petit New York Apartment" is separately available for short or long-term stays. The dream venture, an undoubted Auckland asset, has proved a nightmare for developer Andrew Krukziener.

Contributor comment:"I lived in the Metropolis in a short stay apartment for several weeks and loved every minute of it. The access to the city was amazing, the facilities downstairs (swimming pool) were excellent. The apartments themselves are very tight on space but generous in unexpected places like wardrobes. Definitely a building for urban style folks who don't like to cook (with the exception of one reportedly amazing upper floor penthouse which is apparently decked out like a family home). Parking was awkward so anyone planning to move here ought to secure a nearby permanent spot for their vehicle. But the prestige was amazing. Anyone who discovered you were living at the Metropolis was mightily impressed, it was grand meeting friends on the steps, a little less so taking them up to the tiny little box apartment. Fun times. Would do it again and this will forever be an Auckland landmark for me."
