233A Lambton Quay, Te Aro-Wellington Central, Wellington City
On a single block in Wellington stand four buildings that are a fine collection of late nineteenth and early twentieth century commercial buildings. Three were designed by Thomas Turnbull in Italianate styles, including, in 1899-1901, the wedge-shaped building that was the Bank of New Zealand’s head office.
Once threatened with demolition, the buildings have recently been successfully refurbished for retail and restaurant uses. You will find the shopping arcade to be a haven of NZ designers.
In the audio Wendy Booth elaborates on the delights of shopping in Wellington.
