72 Happy Valley Road, Owhiro Bay-Island Bay, Wellington City
An acre of former gorse wasteland is now home to garden plots, a community orchard, a tool shed, a worm farm, hen house, a shade house and designated wetland as well as a medicinal native plants plot. There are play facilities for kids. The gardens were opened on March 1, 2010. The land is leased from the Wellington City Council and cared for by Mokai Kainga Maori Centre. A rough translation of the name Mmokai Kainga would be that there is no longer a need to be hungry, the organisation's tagline being: Naku te rourou Nau te rourou Ka ora te manuhiri Your basket and my basket will provide for the people.
