The Homestead block of the historic Ashburton Run. Open for visitors are 6.5 acres of woodland and formal gardens, attracting native birdlife and including many rare and mature trees, with one planted to commemorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II in 1981. Hundreds of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias feature in the springtime, the blossom reflected in the lake. In the summer the formal roses gardens are a blaze of colour. Lake rowing and canal walk on site. Visitors will learn about the history of the Ashburton Run, taken up in 1853, and the changes since, including the construction of the homestead in 1918. The main building and several other historic cottages are offered as self contained accommodation, there is a motor museum a museum of a former granary, the estate being completed by a small chapel, also available for hire.
