28-30 High Street, Auckland, Auckland
Architect Tibor K Doner designed the modernist Ellen Melville Hall as a monument to the pioneer women of the city and a memorial to the late Miss Ellen Melville (1882 - 1946). Ellen Melville was New Zealand’s first woman city councillor.
The halls within are available for hire as community venues.
The area has been redeveloped into a community hub and O'Connell Street pedestrianised. The theme of the upgraded precinct is that of the lava flows that created much of Auckland City, with pedestrian stairways representing the ancient flows.
