96 The Terrace, Te Aro-Wellington Central, Wellington City
Now dwarfed by its neighbours, the eleven-story International style Shell House (1958-60) was once a stand out building on the Terrace. Designed by Stephenson and Turner, it brought finely detailed curtain-wall construction to Wellington. It sits on a podium ensuring natural lighting from all sides and was New Zealand's first fully air-conditioned building. LLTM p111.
