The Quaker Settlement

Paving the way for co-housing in New Zealand the Whanganui Quaker Settlement was established in 1975. Set on 20 acres, there are 16 homes surrounding a residential seminar centre. In accordance with cohousing ideas there is collective decision making, no individual ownership of land and an emphasis on sustainable living including communal facilities.The settlement was designed by Michael Payne.

There is an active seminar programme.
