Tokanganui-a-noho

One of the country’s finest nineteenth century carved meeting houses, Tokanganui-a-noho was built by the followers of the Maori prophet and fighting chief Te Kooti in gratitude for the refuge he was given by the Maori King Tawhiao, who lived in Te Kuiti, in Ngati Maniapoto territory, from 1864 to 1881.
