124 Stafford Street, Timaru, Timaru
Timaruvians are rightly proud of their very own A listed Victorian Theatre which has been here since 1877. Though it started life as a simple stone store it was soon upcycled by thoughtful builder turned designer Henry White. The auditorium is not considered to be as grand as the examples of his work in the main centres and the entrance foyer which is a light filled space that features two grand marble staircases was actually an afterthought. Nevertheless the building is well loved and very well used for much of Timaru's drama and performing arts.
