133 High Street, Dannevirke, Tararua
Dannevirke, for a while, became busy enough to qualify for installation of many of the anchors of a successful New Zealand town, a handsome Courthouse, a grand looking bank, Carnegie Library, and an elegant two storey Public Trust Building.
Unfortunately, not all these grand buildings are economically sustainable, and as is the case all over the country, the Public Trust Building was sold off. After a brief moment when a main-street brothel occupied the premises, it became a well-regarded Museum of International Police Memorabilia, with the upstairs rooms converted to a lodge. This all finished in 2016 and a popular local cafe, named The Vaultmoved in.
The District's Gallery of History is on Gordon Street in the Old Courthouse.
