Roys Peak

A great spot to see the sun rise.

Signposted 6 km from Wanaka on the Mt Aspiring Road. Check the track is open - it’s on private land and will be closed for lambing.

Take warm clothing and water, and wear strong walking shoes or boots. Generally hard work as the track for the most part follows a steep 4WD road. The slope faces north and can catch the sun all day. When the track reaches the ridge you follow it to the highest point where there is a television repeater station. The magnificent views of lake, glaciers and mountains, including Mt Aspiring, are well worth the effort. A great spot to see the sunrise; 5-6 hours return.
