Claiming to be the home for Auckland's most adventurous emerging artists and operated by a charitable trust, Basement Theatrehas a focus on New Zealand works, many of which are premieres.
Since first opening their doors in 2008, the Basement has played host to over 600 productions and thousands of artists both onstage and off. From theatre makers, dancers, visual artists, poets, musicians to comedians, Basement Theatre showcases new voices across their two performance spaces. Their risk share model through which they take 20% of the box office makes it possible for artists to put on a show without upfront expenditure.
Basement Theatre is operated by a charitable trust. The venue comprises a theatre for an audience of 100 and a studio for an audience of 65.
