100 Marine Parade, Napier South, Napier, Napier City
At the I-Site you can see what is happening in Napier and book to go to events. A popular annual event (held in February) is the Art Deco weekend. Hawkes Bay prides itself on being a cycling mecca and promotes three trails on which cyclists can explore the region.
A major redevelopment has brought new life to Napier's Marine Parade with the creation of a skating area including a skate bowl and wooden ramps. The existing grandstand from the former Marineland now fronts on the main skate rink which can be used as a stage to allow for concerts, community events and other entertainment.
Determination to turn Marine Parade into being the best promenade in New Zealand dates back to 1885. Napier's mayor George Swan started the series of improvements which with community involvement over the years have included planting the Norfolk pines, filling in a raised area following the earthquake, the Sound Shell (1935), Colonnade (1934), Pania statute (1954) and the Sunken gardens (1969).
