Picton to Whatamango Bay

A winding sealed road of 13 kilometres on the Port Underwood Road.

This is an ideal short drive if you arrive in Picton with time to spare before your ferry leaves. You can park at Waikawa Bay and look at the activity at the marina. A short drive further on you come to Karaka Point Reserve. It has wonderful views of the Sound, and a 10 minute walk takes you to the historic site of a Maori pa with interesting earth constructions.

Whatamango is a quiet bay with an extensive DOC Reserve (camping possible) by the water. Tidal flat with reeds make swimming unappealing, but it’s pleasant for a picnic.
