52 Tennyson Street, Dunedin Central, Dunedin Central, Dunedin City
On Tennyson Street opposite Historic Otago Girls High School is a Victorian heritage mansion operating as a bed and breakfast. Immediately recognisable for it's whimsical symmetrical turret, it is much bigger than it looks because two of the four stories are is below Tennyson street level, but not a basement as it is cut into the hill.
Officially called Hulme Court and latterly dubbed Hulmes Court, the mansion bears the same name as a more famous building in Auckland.
It was the home of surgeon Edward Hulme and his family, built in the 1860s from native timbers and baltic pine, a common component in some Dunedin heritage buildings.
The hosts here are a Kiwi/Russian family and cats.
