46 Lichfield Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch, Christchurch City
This massive purpose built bus interchange was planned and developed following the 2011 earthquakes. The interchange, designed by Architectus, is modelled on an airport lounge concept, aiming to cater for 70,000 passengers per day in 2041. Some buses still have their stops outside of the terminus. Safety is a key factor in the design and a nod to the environment is a central rain garden. Accessibility features like bicycle parking are intended to keep Cantabrians using their buses.
The Bus Interchange is an anchor project in the Christchurch rebuild.
