Harry Holland Library Seddonville

Here stands the handsome and humble library dedicated to one of the strongest drivers in New Zealand Socialism, Australian-born Harry Holland. The some-time MP for Buller, and the Labour Party Leader before Michael Joseph Savage, was a West Coast workers hero, but there are few memorials to him, bar the striking statue in Wellington. He did leave behind his own writings, as a prolific journalist and the chronicler of the Waihi Strike. Coasters are keen to clean up this noble but disused timber library building, which would then qualify as a 'tiny library.' The obvious reasons for the Holland library to be placed here is that Seddonville was formed upon an experiment in Socialism, the government having owned and controlled the mine that operated here from 1903 to 1914 (before Holland's time).

The town itself is a memorial to Richard John Seddon, and there are other memorials to him dotted around New Zealand.
