Murphy's Bush

Murphy's Bush is the largest remaining stand of mature lowland bush in the vicinity of Auckland. You can walk in some of Auckland's finest stands of Kahikatea. A place to picnic and to listen for native birds. There are two entrances, one with a large turn-circle carpark which sometimes appears to have too many single men in cars parked near the ablution block. A smaller entrance is further east on Murphy's Road. Until 2014 this quiet park stood alone in farmland, development of the Ormiston area of Flat Bush has now reached it and it has become surrounded with high density housing. Next door a Christian School with large forested grounds also defies the rampant development which crossed over Murphy's Road and marches ever southward.
