100 Stanley Street, Grafton-Newmarket, Auckland
Auckland's oldest park. Buth a young volcano. Pukekawa erupted 100,000 years ago. The cone and surrounds have been developed in to this park, Green and expansive, with a Winter Garden and Fernery, formal gardens, duck ponds, memorials and sculptures; also home of the Auckland Memorial Museum. On summer Sundays there are free open-air concerts. There is plenty of space (81 hectares) for a good walk. There is a café in the ground floor of the museum and a store selling refreshments by the duck pond.
From the inner city it is easy to get here on foot, by bus, car or taxi. There is parking in front of the museum.
The Domain hosts a number of sculptures. A self guided walking tour in the Domain taking in the sculptures is available on request from the Information Desk in the Auckland Museum foyer.
One special corner of the Domain is called the Wintergarden, here visitors can catch any sun available and seek some shelter from prevailing winds. It is also fully paved so as to be firm underfoot and features ponds which attract the birdlife. These thoughtful landscaping features have inspired many other designs both small and large.
