3 Ody Road, Whangarei Heads, Whangarei
A one-off in kiwiland and rare throughout the world, a jetty built by nature, in the middle of a pretty sandy and shelley bay.
The Whangarei Heads volcanoes are responsible for the magma which baked this ridge of limestone, in what was otherwise soft rock, 20ish million years ago. The softer rocks have been done away with by erosion, this andesite finger remains. In a very convenient place, depending on the tide.
Taurikura's other assets are a community tennis club, (which offers motorhome parking in their paddock) a playground and a scenic location, opposite Marsden Point, and amongst the beauty of Whangarei Heads, Mount Manaia, Urquarts Bay, and Bream Head. Also here is Whangarei Heads school, which is the second oldest (still operating) school in New Zealand.
