Auckland Customs House

This late 1880s building is a companion to the city’s Art Gallery, the best example in the country of a building in another French style, Second Empire. Customs officials have long since abandoned the building which has been successfully recycled to accommodate shops and boutiques. The architect Thomas Mahoney won a competition for the design.
