The beautiful coastal scenery of the Bay of Islands, its warm climate and its blue waters are a lure for many travellers. As a the cradle of European settlement in New Zealand it is rich in history and includes Waitangi where the Treaty regarded as the country's founding document was signed. Towns in the area include Paihia, Kerikeri and Russell - the latter was once the capital of New Zealand.
