1 Williamson Avenue, Newton, Auckland
Back in the early days of Auckland some savvy Borough Councils combined their offices with (Volunteer) Fire Departments. This is the Newton version, circa 1889, designed to serve the burgeoning suburb which sprung from the carved up farm of 'Surrey Hills' that was. The Mount Eden Council Chambers and Fire Station was built later and on a much larger scale.
Now we have a Super City but the building and all it's decoration still stand, testament to the reported incredible 4 month go to whoa construction phase. Now you may take coffee or lunch downstairs here.
Heritage NZ has the rest of the history.
