51 Willow Street, Tauranga, Tauranga City

Old Tauranga Post Office

Built in 1906 in the time of the Liberal Government (1890-1911) and when postal services were being expanded, the former Post office retains its Edwardian era exuberance. The building also housed other Government departments including a court room. Its design was from the Government architect's office (John Campbell). A Category 1 historic place, the prominently sited post office is an important feature in the townscape. Its design is similar to others found in Whanganui and Greymouth.
