Tauranga Visitor Centre

Wealthy Tauranga (pop 135,000) is one of NZ's fastest growing cities. Its growth is given impetus because the climate has made it an attractive place to retire. The city centre is concentrated on a narrow peninsula with parks and gardens backing on to a lively waterfront area. Tauranga is New Zealand's largest export port, hosting cruise ships whose passengers visit Rotorua and other Bay of Plenty attractions and exporting forest products, including logs, kiwifruit and dairy products.

The commercialised beach resort of Mt Maunganui is a suburb of Tauranga. If you are visiting the region without a vehicle and want to split time between the centres the Bay Bus service links Tauranga, Mt Maunganui and the beach suburb of Papamoa.

Tauranga is home to the annual National Jazz Festival.
