Savage Crescent

Palmerston North City Community Halls

The first Labour Government utilised "Garden City" ideas in this state house development built between 1939 and 1946. It remains relatively intact. Ernst Plischke was one of the architects. The Savage Crescent precinct tells an important part of the story of the first Labour Government’s establishing the New Zealand welfare state.
