Anapai Bay Track, Totaranui, Tasman

Anapai Bay

A beautiful walk from Totaranui, and a bit of a geological excursion. Anapai Bay is famous for it's beauty, with clean golden sands fringed by the pristine native bush of Abel Tasman National Park.

The golden sands are so sought after that they are barged to dress Wellington's Oriental Bay, and were plastered upon Westport's Municipal Chambers. Here you see their origins in a unique way, the attractive granite from which they were formed was createdin a rich underground rock boilup over 100 million years ago. Coastal Erosion has exposed the more solid slabs of rock, while the softer grains crunch underfoot.

This is a Geotrip.
