Wellington Wind Turbine Brooklyn

Wellington City Walks

In 1993 a wind turbine erected on this site was New Zealand's first large scale wind electricity generator. After 22 years of service it was replaced with the support of the residents of Brooklyn which had come to be identified with it, by a new machine with over four time the annual power output.
This is a splendid place to get get panoramic views of Wellington, the Hutt Valley and the South Coast. It can be accessed by car or on a tour.
Two walking tracks lead from here to Red Rocks on the South Coast, one of them past the Hawkins Hill radar dome.
