200 Tokomaru East Road, Tokomaru, Horowhenua
The most favoured swimming hole in Tararua foothills is this golden spot on the Tokomaru River.
Sharing a name with a rather upsized attraction on the Colorado River in the USA, this little spot is, true to it's name, a horseshoe shaped bend in the river. Locals gather here on warm summer days taking advantage of the large green reserve maintained by Horowhenua Council, swimming in the changing but deep and satisfying swimming holes of the cleanest Tararua water. Which may also be cold.
A great spot for a picnic, the other nearby attractions being the Steam Museum and The Bent Horseshoe Cafe, a versatile venue which caters for all, with a lean towards live music, hosting New Zealand and overseas bands and even a local acoustic jam night on Sundays.
NZPlaces would love to see your pictures of Horseshoe Bend.
