Lower Hutt City Community Halls
Naenae Post Officeis the very emblem of the intent of Naenae state suburb.
Somewhat of an anachronism even in it's day (1959) was the addition of a clock tower, but the elegant modernist clock instantly became a pillar of the statement as to what Naenae was meant to be. Recognition of the urban design intent of the Naenae plan has been bumpy, and the benefits to the residents have been diluted over the years, even to the extent that this is no longer a Post Office. However Hutt City Council's efforts at regenerating the former model suburb are admirable, and they leased the building back for community use in 2019 when the Naenae Olympic Pool met it's sad demise due to earthquake concerns.
Heritage New Zealand came on board and recognised the building the following year.
The real place to post letters is now at the Epuni shops.
