National War Memorial and Carillon - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

This is a place where we remember those who lost their lives in the various wars that New Zealanders have been part of. The history surrounding the obtaining of the unknown soldier and the significance of this place, will fascinate children as will the idea of the carillon consisting of 74 bells with a total weight of 70 tonnes. The National War Memorial is open daily except on Christmas Day and Good Friday. The carillon designed by Gummer and Ford was completed for ANZAC day 1932. The Hall of Memories by the same architects was completed in 1964.
