Pukeahu National War Memorial Park

Pukeahu Park acknowledges the Centenary of the First World War. It has been created by taking Buckle St underground through what is called the Arras Tunnel, the walls of which have been decorated with poppies. The name Arras commemorates the New Zealand tunnelling company based in Arras during the First World War. A new, unified National Memorial precinct has been created improving visitors’ experience of the National War Memorial and providing space for more people at events such as ANZAC day.
On Anzac Day 2018 writer Tayi Tible read her poem Hoki Mai to the dawn parade.

15 sandstone columns comprise the Australian memorial. They are surrounded by eucalyptus trees and symbolise that country's red centre.
There are also French and United Kingdom memorials.

There is also a memorial to lives lost in the 1918 influenza pandemic. An event which was particularly devastating for Maori.
