14 Gordon Street, Dannevirke, Tararua
Dannevirke's handsome courthouse is now the rightful home of the proud keepers of the history of this Scandanavian heritage town. It greets all comers with a sign 'Velkommen"
This is the place to come for those interested in the history of this southern Hawke's Bay district and town which were founded in the Bush by Danish, Norwegian and Swedish families in 1872. The gallery holds a range of archives of the district.
The former Courthouse in the Edwardian Baroque style was one of those built when John Campbell was Government Architect. The former post office is next door, though the handsome High School has gone.
NZPlaces would love to see your impressions and images of this building and the displays.
