117 Manners Street, Te Aro, Wellington City
Wellington City Community Halls
Completed in 1914 and still in use "The Grand Opera House" has a category 1 Heritage Listing. An Australian architect, William Pitt, was the designer. In 1977 it was strengthened and restored. The principal architectural significance of the building is its interior. It is now managed by Positively Wellington Venues and used for many performances and events. At street level the Opera House houses Crumpet The Boon Brothers Trading Co, a café with an exotic decor serving Peoples Coffee and morphing in the evening to a wine and cocktail bar. (You will find crumpets on the menu).
