57-59 Symonds Street, Auckland, Auckland
In 1872 Edward Mahoney designed an auditorium (seating 1000) for the Auckland Choral Society. It served as a town hall as well as a concert chamber. Bought by the University in 1911 wings were added to the original building and the auditorium subdivided for use by Science departments. A Greek revival portico added in 1877 has been removed explaining the nature of the Symonds street entrance.
